Farm cottage in need of some repairs.
Replace frosted roof tiles.
Reset chimney pot, flaunch head, clean out valley.
Chimney two had all sorts of metal supporting the pots, old hinges reinforcing rod etc. Over time these rust and cause rust heave and the head then detaches itself from the brickwork letting water in.
The chimneys are built square with a 9inch flue and unless you have a flue liner built in, the circular pots don’t fit very well leaving a gap in the corners of the flue and being unstable, some use slate to get over this problem others use metal bar.
The best way to deal with the problem is to use a paving slab, cut to size and cut a hole in the middle, it ties the head of the chimney in and is of the same material, giving a nice flat surface to mount your pot.
A course of brickwork to support the base of the pot, the flaunch top with sharp sand and cement.
