Burnhurst House in Hurst Green, home of the late Lord Longford.
We rebuilt two chimneys in lime mortar and a third was in good order but had rust heave just above the roof line.
Rust heave is where metal oxidises and expands as it does so.
There was a flat metal plate built into the brickwork to support the corbeling of brickwork, this had rotted away and heaved causing some stability issues.
We shored up the head of the chimney with timber and then chopped out the metal bar one side at a time, while doing so three courses of bricks were also removed and rebuilt, but corbeled at 1 inch per corbel in order to give the appropriate support.
